Dysport®
and Botox® are the tradename of Toxina Botulínica tipo
A, a powerful muscular paralysing, derived from the botulism toxin.
The
botulism toxin stops the transmission of the electric impulse between the nerve
and the muscle, paralyzing the local musculature.
The
dynamic wrinkles (caused by the movement) of the face and neck exist
due to the muscular contraction. So, if we paralyze the muscles that
produce them, will not have more formation of wrinkles.
It
is in these specific muscles that the plastic surgeon applies botulism toxin,
through an injection of extremely thin needle.
Beyond
this more common utilization, this substance also has been used in the
correction of the excessive sweat of armpits and hands, being applied
locally, stopping the necessary muscular contraction for the elimination
of the sweat by the glands.
The
application is quick (between 5 to 10 minutes) and little aching. The
muscular paralyzation occurs after 48 to 72 hours, with average duration
of six months (3 to 6 months) and does not leave the patient without
facial expression.
Ceased
the effect, the application must be repeated.
